Use RISA to Consider Bi-Directional (Quartering) Wind Loading

Have you tried to apply the difficult wind directional combinations that the ASCE 7 now requires? RISA-3D automatically considers these different wind combinations using the wind load generator and the load combination generator.

Provision 6.5.12.3 from the ASCE 7-05 requires the wind load cases of Figure 6-9 be considered.

These four cases create a multitude of different possible wind scenarios. RISA-3D will automatically generate these loads in the Wind Load Generator by going to Insert > Wind Load… Once the design parameters are entered, the program will generate the wind forces. Please note that rigid diaphragms must be used in order to automatically generate wind loads.

Once the wind loads are generated, use the Load Combination Generator   within the Load Combinations spreadsheet and choose the X and Z w/Quartering. Use the Reversible checkbox to generate all of the combinations created from Figure 6-9.
